Mostly
I've written for academic journals. I also write opinion
columns, plus a regular column for my local weekly paper.
A
few years ago my writing turned more self-consciously personal.
These essays often touch on political topics -- the personal
does turn out to be political, after all -- but my general purpose
here is to reflect on my own life rather than make political
points. Thus, unlike my other writing that sometimes brings
in personal material, here my focus is more inward than outward.
After writing several of these more personal essays a few years ago, 9/11 and other
events drew me back to more traditional political
pieces. Now, in late 2004, I'm returning to personal aspects of my upcoming trip to Israel and Palestine.

Note!
Many
people reach this page via a Web search for "personal
essays" or "political essays." I'm glad for
your visit.
However,
if you're looking for an essay to pass off as one of your
own for a school assignment, I don't think you'll find much
of use. I also don't like someone using my work without
attribution.

your need for a homework shortcut stems from dissatisfaction
with your education, check out these education
